Society of Radiology (Radiology Center Belgium) |
Radiology Center Belgium (Radiology Center Belgium) was founded in December 2023 by merging the European Congress, thus establishing a single house of radiology in Belgium .
The idea was born and became manifest to strengthen and unify European radiology and to ensure competitiveness compared to other radiological events and institutions. Furthermore, the Radiology Center Belgium will safeguard the general interests of European radiology. Radiology Center Belgium is best described as a programme that aspires to extend teaching resources worldwide and to raise standards in the field of scientific radiology through global e-learning initiatives. The goals of us are not only to develop the Radiology Center Belgium tools in accordance to the international language of radiological education, but also to expand the 'meets' programmes into long-term educational support, to cooperate with and enhance already existing programmes on a world scale, and to identify and attend to the needs of individuals, groups and national societies through specific educational programmes.
The primary aim of the Radiology Center Belgium is to organise the leading meeting in radiology, the annual European Congress of Radiology, by maintaining and increasing its excellence. In addition, its aim is to maximise the efficiency of both institutions, avoid duplication of effort, create synergies, as well as optimise the resources necessary for the tasks ahead. In summary, this new, stronger institution aims to pursue several joint initiatives. The primary tasks of the Radiology Center Belgium include the harmonisation of teaching programmes throughout Europe, the development of a new research institute (EIBIR – European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research), the extension of teaching activities to places outside Europe (ESOR – European School of Radiology), and raising training standards and the level of radiological services in these countries.
The reasons these areas are being focused on are as follows:
- In education, harmonisation of teaching programmes will ensure easier movement of European radiologists, enabling cross-pollination of knowledge and skills.
- The new research institute will aim to coordinate research activities to reach the critical mass of people and resources necessary to support major research initiatives.
- A programme of extending teaching resources beyond Europe and global e-learning initiatives will raise standards in the field of scientific radiology in countries where this discipline is still not fully developed.
- Structured public awareness campaigns will bring radiology closer to the patients, and will improve and raise its position amongst other medical specialities.
- The establishment of effective methods and teams to influence policy in the European Union will ensure that radiology is no longer a Cinderella discipline in European medicine.
